Flood House

New Orleans, LA

Fall 2012 | Arch 601 - Graduate Studio: The Second Life of the Boeing 747 with Professor Harry Eggink

Using a retired Boeing airplane, design a disaster refuge. My design responds to the housing that has been rebuilt since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. A larger percentage of this housing is being rebuilt exactly as it was before, equally vulnerable, equally unsafe. This refuge affords the residents a level of safety, allowing them to retreat within the water tight capsule and rise up with the flooding, rather than becoming trapped inside or on top of their home.
